MSME in India: Role in Economic Growth and Impact of the Make in India Initiative

Indian economy thrives on the kind of youth population it has, and enterprise creation is one of the prime movers of the economy. Modi Government bringing in "Make in India and Made in India" movement has played an integral role in entrepreneurship development across the country. Therefore, MSMEs being the biggest opportunity to uplift the Indian economy play a vital role in strengthening the economy.
One of the unique features of MSMEs is that they are widely spread across sectors of the economy, producing a diverse range of products and services starting from local and reaching out to global markets. It’s interesting to know that MSMEs contribute 8% to our GDP, 45% of manufacturing output, and 40% of exports of India, and on top of that, they require the least investment while rewarding with high returns. This makes their role in Indian manufacturing growth extremely critical. The "Make in India" initiative by the current Indian Prime Minister is based on four pillars, each aimed at empowering MSMEs and boosting the Indian economy. The synergy between Make in India and MSME support schemes has created significant ease of doing business for MSMEs in India.
